Meditation House

by Kengo Kuma

Kranzbach has developed something very special for you. In the middle of the forest – above the original Treehouse – stands a Meditation House.

A truly relaxing place to retreat for guests, who wish to practice meditation during their stay in Kranzbach –either alone or with a coach. In absolute tranquility. For everyone, who in the ever more stressful outside world would like to find inner peace. The Meditation House in the forest is an architectural „piece of art“ – designed by Architect Kengo Kuma from Tokyo.

Kengo Kuma was born in 1954. In 1979, he graduated from the University of Tokyo. He then worked as a guest lecturer at the University of Colombia before he founded Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990. Since 2009, he is a Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture (University of Tokyo).

We deliberately chose an architect from Japan: Meditation plays a significant role in the far East; Japan has built since hundreds of years houses predominantly out of wood; Architect Kengo Kuma is recognized as the master of combining nature and inspirational design. Architect Barbara Poberschnigg and DI Mario Huber from STUDIO LOiS in Innsbruck worked with the design from Kengo Kuma and created the detailed plans as well as the coordination of materials.

We offer our guests Yoga retreats and special Meditation programs. An overview is available in the Kranzbach Workshop Program.
